As organizations grow and evolve, it’s also important that they grow the knowledge and skills of their employees. This is why at Vari, we believe in and practice employee development through Vari University, our ongoing corporate education program.

In an effort to positively kickoff an employee’s journey here at Vari, every new hire begins our Vari University program with a week of employee onboarding and training. According to Katie DeSimone, Manager of Learning and Development at Vari, this initiative has benefits for both the employer and the employee.

“What we’ve seen is the impact of training in the employee’s first week ultimately helps them determine whether or not they will stay with that organization. By initiating training right away and on an ongoing basis, we’ve seen improved employee retention,” DeSimone said. “And we do find that employees want to learn as they come on board.”

In addition to learning about our flexible office furniture and accessories in the first week of training, we also teach our employees about the core values at Vari. This helps to instill what we value as an organization, aligns every team member on what we’re trying to accomplish, and it creates a consistent experience for our fans.

“It’s one thing to have our core values on the wall of our office,” DeSimone said. “But it’s another thing to live and breathe them and demonstrate what they really mean. Our values convey not only how we treat each other on a daily basis, but also how we treat our customers.”

Of course, today organizations need flexibility on how and even where they train employees. With the growth in the remote workforce, virtual employee onboarding and video training are on the rise. With companies also shifting to a hybrid model with employees working from home some days and in the office on others, organizations will have to rethink their training spaces. A large room filled with training tables may not be needed every single day, so solutions that allow companies to reclaim that space when not in use are essential.

With a company-wide onboarding program and continued learning, there are a host of benefits for the employer, employee, and customers. As such, now might be the time to consider adding a training program.
